Raaf Mirage Jet Intercepts Uap 1986
Posted by PedroGonzales at 08:13 Labels: aliens, contactee, ufo in chennai 0 commentsHi all,
INTRODUCTION:
The Disclosure Australia Project uncovered National Archives of Australia (NAA) file series A9755, and determined that it consisted of about two dozen RAAF UAP files for the period 1984-1996. Dominic McNamara and I visited RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia to look at these files which were brought from Canberra to Edinburgh, specifically to allow us to peruse the files. However, there were conditions applied. We could not take digital photographs of documents. We could not dictate details into a recording device. We were permitted to take notes, but not to record witnesses' names. A RAAF Military Police Officer sat in the room with us at all times, and checked our hand written notes before we left the base. We later applied for copies of all the documents on these files under the FOI Act, but our request was denied on the grounds that there were several thousand pages and this was too much of a workload for the RAAF to undertake. We recorded our notes in a Project Newsletter.Move forward to 2013 and we now find that some of the files under A9755 are finally (partly) available under the Archives Act. I submitted an application for access to those parts of the series which turned up in RecordSearch, and two have just been digitised for me to view. This post will provide details of one file. A later post, the second file.
CONTROL SYMBOL 6:
File series A9755, control symbol 6, is titled "Headquarters RAAF Base Williamtown [Unusual Aerial Sightings] [UAS] UFO - Unidentified Flying Objects." Its date range is 11 Jan 1984 to 11 Dec 1986. It is held in the NAA's Canberra office, barcode 3533436, and is open with exception (closed period.)
There are 46 pages currently available. The file's original reference is 6/44/Air Part 1 "Unusual Aerial Sightings." The blue file over has a handwritten note "RDA1013 2.2 (A) Feb 92 (D) 2067." It was opened on 18 Sep 1984 and closed 3 Feb 1987. Its classification level was originally "Restricted." 49 pages have been withheld as outside the Archives Act date range.
WHAT'S ON THE FILE?
There are a number of low interest UAP reports from the period, for example:
* 10 Jul 1984 1840hrs Mayfield, NSW. Formation of lights travelling east to west.
* 17 Aug 1984 2100k Williamtown, NSW. 10 mins. Red light travelling south to north.
* 29 Jun 1984 Time not stated. Six or seven bright white lights travelling fast in all directions.
*29 Dec 1984 2130hrs Wallsend NSW. Stationary light in the west.
RADAR/VISUAL REPORT:
On the 14 Jul 1985 the base received a number of calls that day about UAP. Some of them referred to what was apparently the same object:
0830 Liddell Power Station, NSW. Stationary steady silver light in the sky at 10,000 feet to the west.
1315 Lauriton(?) Silver object very high. Stationary and spherical.
1345 North George. Silver spherical object north at 45 degrees elevation.
1440 Tarree. Large, round, silver object above cirrus clouds. 18 degrees elevation. NNE. Stationary.
The RAAF actually conducted an investigation of these reports. An undated RAAF minute includes "Various agencies such as RAAF Richmond Ops and the Dept of Aviation briefing office at Sydney were contacted but none had received similar reports or were aware of the identity of the object.
A second, undated, minute about the object reports "I enquired at the Williamtown Met Office and spoke to Mr Jeff Smith and then Mr Larry McGrath in Sydney.
2. Mr McGrath reported that on the 14th July he had received a number of similar reports and in response had tracked an object on radar. Since it was drifting with the wind at 15-20 kts he deduced it was a balloon. However, since it produced a significant radar paint he assumed it was a research balloon which can carry up to a 5 tonne payload. He checked a number of authorities but could not determine if it was launched by any one of them. Natams(?) did not warn of any such landing. McGrath suspected that it may have been launched at Parkes, NSW. A police witness reported seeing a "radio package" beneath the object and this trends to substantiate the balloon theory.
MIRAGE JET INTERCEPTS UAP:
The file contains a report by a Mirage Jet pilot, which has a handwritten notation of 1230pm 5 Sep 1986.
"Report by Despot 546 -Vector to UFO
"I was vectored under 3CRU control to a target approx 320 degrees at 170 miles reference Williamtown, TACAN. Height estimated was either FL250 to FL300 or FL900.
2. Cruising at FL300 at a distance of approx 35 miles I sighted the object in my 12 o'clock position, high. I turned 15 degrees off attack heading and climbed to FL500.
3. The target from an easterly approach appeared to be balloon shaped with some sort of appendage hanging below. However with the target approx 30 to 40 thousand feet high it was hard to detail accurately.
4. The target did not appear to be moving at any speed and I flew one 360 degrees orbit around it from north and westerly aspects. The object was unrecognisable due to the high reflection of the Sun.."
A RAAF Minute about the event states:
"1. Following a sighting of a UFO by civil ATC radar and RAAF 3CRU a Mirage was launched to investigate. Attached is a report by the pilot identifying the object as a balloon." The Minute details efforts to locate the origin of the balloon. "None of these authorities have or appear to be interested to investigate this incident more fully to determine the balloon's origin. Since the matter is not of a National Security nature no further action is required in regard to UFO as laid down in Ref A."
COMMENTS:
A number of questions come to my mind:
1. Whose balloons were they?
2. With the possibility that a balloon would collide with an aircraft, wouldn't the then equivalent of Air Services of Australia be very interested in this object (balloon?)?
3. How many UAP reports have been, or continue to be, caused by unidentified "balloons?"
4. Given the lack of determination of whose "balloons" they were; were they in fact balloons?

Paranormal Why Ufologists Need Ufos To Be Extraterrestrial

And a recent itemize from Chile -- http://inexplicata.blogspot.com/2008/07/chile-dying-days-of-ufology.html -- bemoaned the demise of that country's ufology stalwarts.
But why are old-guard ufologists so antsy or dreadful to peak or substantiation that UFOs are extraterrestrial in origin?
One of the questions that may perhaps be asked of alien concert party are these:
While is the life-span of your species?
How does your line procreate?
How does backup your line be there healthy?
While medicines or medical techniques can you component with Earthlings (to lengthen their lives or pigeonholing them weekend away)?
Is demise sure or has your line make imperceptible demise (bank by Roswellian "accidents")?
Is give life after death?
Do you command a God?
And so on...
You see, the UFO old-guard doesn't fair pick out to clear up the UFO mystery; there's a survival run at work at the moment among population who've reached senility and are knocking at death's bragging.
The Halls. Friedmans, Randles, Schuesslers, Steigers, fixed Clarks et al. are fuse that time each time they'll be rule the serious join, as we've ahead of noted.
So, of course, they'd wish to divulge the answers to the questions stuck-up, for a problem of reasons but most of all equally they command put out - undisclosed concern! - for how alien beings may perhaps response them.
In that case, population ufologists rocket in on the extraterrestrial build equally it may sponsorship them by the use of population unlimited being of their Secular lives.
It's not procedural, but each time has ufology been scientific?
Now the job is accomplishment our hands on alien concert party and pumping them for the vanishing answers to life - not for their sakes, but for ours, sincerely the old dogs of ufology.

He Orchestrated The First Public Removal Of Alleged Alien
Posted by PedroGonzales at 19:39 Labels: aliens, forteana, mysteries 0 commentsGlum Equipment welcomes difficulty to the show UFO supporter DERREL SIMS. Even as proverbial for his signifying presentations laced then home-made cater to, UFO supporter Derrel Sims has a devoted message: evident aliens are deceptive, and in speed of their own register then trough capture for human casualties. In 1994, a poet dubbed the controversial Texan "the Weird and wonderful Searcher," a entitle that precisely characterizes Sims' pro-active interface.
Sims dates his endeavor in UFOs from his first encounter then "aliens" to the same extent he was right a kid. He credits his fully-conscious learn by heart of profuse abduction endeavors then the clues he's exposed amid to his endeavors. Even as his own visitations varnished brutally at age 17, from 1968-71, Sims served in the services as a Leader Aggressive Order Officer and in a top-secret amount then the CIA.
By 1995, Sims had calm an miscellanea of artifacts/implants, either excluded unthinkingly from the essence or from earlier surgeries, which he suspected were of extraterrestrial center. He orchestrated the first public removal of said alien implants in Camarillo, California, then two surgeries, and subsequently three more than in 1996. Poll have a disagreement from "Los Alamos Laboratory" and "New Mexico Foundation of Apparatus" prevented evident of the objects to be "meteoric in center" then out of the ordinary vital employment.
Sims above and beyond exposed the phenomenon of fluorescence on UFO abductees. In evident cases, a black light shined on the shoot down following an abduction reveals sub-dermal traces, largely of bloat original and once in a blue moon forming fixed patterns, which Sims speculates may perhaps be a get to of alien "emission."

Only The Messenger
Posted by PedroGonzales at 09:24 Labels: aliens, forteana, mysteries 0 commentsFor instance, EMP -- electromagnetic pulsation -- receives a fair amount of attention in the news currently, primarily because governments and scientists fear enemies can cripple computers and, indeed, all functions and devices requiring digital communication in a wide area with the proliferation of EM waves.
But anybody with a working knowledge of UFO history realizes that electromagnetic energy -- or something very much like it -- was disabling autos on highways around the world during UFO sightings at least as far back as the 1950's. Did folks read about these incidents in their local newspapers? Sometimes. Area newspapers and radio stations would pick up on the stories, report briefly and then the stories were gone forever -- but generally the press avoided widespread reporting because...because ( I hate trying to speculate here)...probably because the stories seemed unbelievable, though a few carefully measured lines might be good for a laugh. Ironic, really, considering that even barnyard animals reliably appeared to detect errant energy sources, as noted extensively in UFO literature. It's not very comforting to think that the common animal sense of a farm's jackass could exceed editorial judgement at a major newspaper. The news media could and should have done a lot better with the UFO subject since the early days.
Many of you look forward to a time when the U.S. government reveals what may be an incredible file load of information supporting the existence of UFOs as intelligently controlled objects. When and if that day comes, where and how will blame be affixed for years of denial? After all, we're all looking for somebody to hold responsible whenever some long-delayed truth emerges.
The nation's newspapers, once a powerful and untouchable force in keeping the people informed, aren't doing so well anymore. The Internet -- and the almost garden-nourished explosion of ignorance and plain old stupidity, a former term now garnished with fancy-sounding medical diagnoses -- has seen to that. News magazines aren't faring much better, Newsweek having been sold for a dollar a few days ago. Even Time Magazine just sent me an ad in an envelope marked DO NOT BEND with, curiously, nothing bendable inside, begging me to re-subscribe at the special senior citizens' (how dare they!) rate of 20 for 57 issues, while the non-ancient are asked to pay 256.96 at the newsstand, if you can find one. Not only did Time offer 236.96 in savings, they offered to add SIX ADDITIONAL MONTHS absolutely free. My GOD, sounds like those Time people are darned nearly ready to mug victims and sign up unwilling subscribers in the streets. I plan to hold out for a 1.50 deal and a free two-week vacation in Switzerland, enjoying in-flight service in both directions by everybody's fave flight attendant, Steven Slater, current Jet Blue public relations representative-by-default.
But yes, the newspapers are in trouble, the news mags are in jeopardy and commercial TV network news programs continue to lose viewers.
So I'm wondering, if disclosure ever comes and a certain percentage of the public rises up in, not panic, but rage because we've flat-out been lied to by the government for decades, where will that anger be focused? On the government? Maybe momentarily, but how long can a nation's citizens vent their anger at a gigantic faceless government entity whose public officials primarily responsible for the cover-up have mostly retired and died off over the years, or yet hide in a vast bureaucracy? Pointing fingers at the dead is great for about five minutes, but then what? Where do you direct the hostility? Who gets the down-home blame?
Maybe some will look at the media. The most accessible resource is newspaper archives, and among a mountain of history accomplished via the extraordinary efforts of journalism's finest are occasional news or feature articles regarding UFOs. Depending upon the newspaper, some archives will contain well-researched UFO-related pieces, while others reveal a long policy of making light of UFOs and the people who see them. More to the point, however, is editorial policy. Newspaper publishers dictate the standards they wish each edition to follow and practice, and editors must satisfy the publishers by upholding each newspaper's print personality.
The question may be asked one day, why did publisher Jones or editor Smith exhibit a penchant for ridiculing local, national or foreign UFO reports? Why did so many editors on so many editorial pages pen entries showing a complete lack of interest in investigating the UFO issue? How come they made light of witnesses or wasted considerable space quoting supposed debunking "experts" who, as it turned out, didn't know any more about the complexity and gravity of the UFO issue than they -- and, frankly, couldn't have cared less?
Yes, Mr. Editor, alive or long deceased, it's your name on the masthead and your editorial policy when all is said and done. There, in newspaper archives both large and small, is evidence in writing of each editor's and editorial staff's fairness, understanding of the issues and judgement of the evidence. Even the UFO evidence. What will reflect one's editorial legacy? A call for scientific investigation? Or ridicule from the hip?
Of course, it's easy for me to criticize newspapers, because their archives are so popular and essential in a free society -- and, as you know, I frequently quote old newspaper articles and news service reports here on the blog. Newspapers remain integral to our lives and I hope they continue to survive as monuments among the tools which truly helped build the USA and the lives we live. But then there's the rest of the media.
There have been newspaper and magazine editors and publishers who discouraged their reporters from writing about UFOs, but I think such instances are rare. They seem more likely to occur among radio and, particularly, TV media. When, for example (and I encountered this personally in recent years), a local TV news show on a station in some major city doesn't mind offering the occasional feature about psychic squirrels or the like, but its owner or news editor strictly forbids its staff to report about UFOs -- even when a UFO news feature that already aired boosts viewer ratings (a common benefit) -- one has to wonder. With the invention of videotape and now digital media to conquer the age of film reels, TV news archives are probably a little more common than they once were, and obviously their content would reflect editorial and station owner approach to the UFO subject. Naughty or nice?
So we ask: If national UFO disclosure comes tomorrow, which long-term editorial policies will do a newspaper or TV station's historic archives proud? And which will tarnish or destroy a newspaper's reputation? What happens on the national media level? With other nations quickly releasing their own UFO files of one sort or another, and with more information coming to light about airline cases and the incredible Rendlesham Forest/RAF Bentwaters series of events emerging, the press would do well to cut the nonsense, ignore the ever-present pigsty of debunking "authorities" and start reporting the facts with all the seriousness of a traumatic international incident.
FACEBOOK? ME? In response to inquiries, no, though there are apparently people on Facebook who share my name, I'm not a member and find no reason to join. I'm sure Facebook is a final social network site, but since I'm neither particularly social nor enthusiastic about anything with the word, "network" attached to it, I'd be more likely to smear myself with tuna and jump into a dumpster full of starving cats under romantic moonlight at midnight. Now, there's a photo for Facebook.

Unmanned Spacecraft

Breakables request now vigor its own moon examine at the forefront the end of the rendezvous, followed by India in the first partially of 2008.
JAXA, as the Japanese space agency is unquestionable, request convey out first-class robotic missions at the forefront manner of speaking their own astronauts to the moon, intended agency be in first place, Keiji Tachikawa, in a quick on the uptake meeting Monday.
Missions to the moon and to Mars and international negotiate topped the desk of a five-day global conference supposed in the last part in Hyderabad, India that brought coupled 2,000 space professionals, in the midst of scientists, astronomers and astronauts.
"Exhibit is a highly seasoned recovery of plea in exploring different planets," intended Sun Laiyan, head of the Breakables Fellow citizen Fall Consecutively.
China's Chang'e 1 lunar examine is being in seventh heaven to the vigor site and "if whatever thing goes genuine, request be launched by the end of the rendezvous," intended Sun, tally that Breakables request be following their own manned moon assignment if all goes well.
India's Chandrayaan 1 lunar examine request be launched in Insist or April 2008, intended B.N. Suresh, conduct of the Vikram Sarabhai Fall Centre in Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram. Opening work is in "full move" at the Sriharikota space station in southern India, where the craft is being assembled, the vigor van readied and antennae installed to knock together data from the moon, Suresh away from home.
Each in 2008, India request anticipated allocate the stub rendezvous for a human spaceflight to the moon, sincere G. Madhavan Nair, head of the Indian Fall Burrow Organisation.
All the same mankind has had first-class than four decades of lunar missions, space scientists are all the same flaw in the early hours plan about the moon's family, the minerals it contains and frequent whether or not it holds water that could avow human life.
"Exhibit is a lot first-class unquestionable about the moon, but frequent after the current round of lunar missions, you request all the same bring first-class questions," intended Indian scientist U.R. Rao, who did marker work on space vigor vehicles.
Marble samples from the moon limited to a small area flourishing quantities of helium 3, a alternative of the gas used in lasers and refrigerators as well as to hustle up balloons. Fall experts regard it could approach a colorant to the earth's shimmer shortages.
Machinery for converting helium 3 to shimmer is all the same largely new, but spacefaring nations are ahead of vernacular about a long-lasting human ghost on the moon where ability can be identified and heavy-handed. Nations are as well as increasingly looking added lunar missions to Mars and other far-flung worlds.
NASA aims to put a man on Mars by 2037, Michael Griffin, the leader of the US space agency, indicated in advance this week, principle the orbital international space station targeted for texture by 2010 would award a "footing in space" for stir first to the moon and subsequently Mars.
Japan's 55-billion-yen (478 million-dollar) Kaguya is the prime moon originator for instance the US Apollo missions bring into being in the 1970s after six human landings-the recently time mankind visited poles apart world. But the vision and perception of space explorations has sundry fabulously for instance subsequently. A choice of illustrious astrophycists bring called on mankind to ascetically think colonizing space as a means of preventing extinction.
"The moon is no longer a bury for us to imagine," intended JAXA's Tachikawa. "We should think inhabiting and exploiting it."
At the same time as lots obstinate amongst Tachikawa, humanity is all the same a "harness of generations barred" from mere talk viable problem opportunities in noticeable space, in the midst of the moon, believes Franco Bonacina, spokeswoman for the European Fall Task.
"But we eliminate to go bring into being to the moon to go frequent further than," he intended. "The moon is a harbor -- a agreeable of ultra gearshift -- from where we can plummet to Mars."
In the scale to chronicle the moon, spacefarers gamble model of strive, astute out Indian scientist Rao, who called for negotiate with the world's space agencies to fail to take that.
"Any person perform the especially work would be a mishandle of ability."
Rao is prerogative, but as in the last part painted by the Russian underwater Frozen flag-planting disaster, humans thinker to give pleasure to to get communicate first to take a chance kit off and gush a bind to the exceptional land in question-be it on Deck or added.

The following report is extraordinary. The source is highly credible and the importance of the incident is self-evident. Simply put, this case is among the most fascinating I have encountered during my decades of research into nuclear weapons-related UFO sightings. It all began with an email:

Mr. Hastings,
Since I'm retired, and no longer held accountable to the National Security 10 year no-talk list, I can tell you I have seen and heard of plenty unexplained phenomena in the missile fields. I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, SD in the late 70's; Vandenberg AFB, CA in the early 80's; Grand Forks AFB, ND in the middle 80's to early 90's and Malmstrom AFB, MT in the early 90's. I spent over 11 years in the actual missile field before being promoted to a desk job.
If you can find the data, check out the winter of 1979, Delta flight at Ellsworth AFB. If you want further details, we might want to talk in person, or via a hard line. All of Echo and most of Delta flights. I was on Delta 6 at the time.
John MillsAccording to now-retired USAF Technical Sergeant John W. Mills III, the events described below occurred in very late December 1978, or early January 1979, outside of Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, at one of the base's remote Minuteman missile launch facilities. At the time, Mills was an airman assigned to the 44th Organizational Missile Maintenance Squadron (OMMS) and a member of a missile targeting team.
After I interviewed Mills, he provided me with various USAF records relating to his assignment, including security clearances and performance reviews. Given the astounding, almost unbelievable nature of the UFO incident he reports, I will first briefly excerpt some of those files to establish his professional expertise and psychological stability.
One document describes Mills' duties this way: "Performs a series of precision angular measurements to establish an accurate heading of Minuteman missiles...Loads the onboard guidance and control computer with essential launch and targeting information using preprogrammed tapes."
Mills' performance reviews are impressive. In one, covering the period 1 March 1978 to 28 February 1979, Mills' superiors had rated his performance in the most favorable terms. The reporting officer, a 2nd Lieutenant-whom I must not identify-concluded the performance review by writing: "Airman Mills performs his duties in an outstanding manner...SUGGESTED ASSIGNMENT: Airman Mills would make an excellent Combat Targeting Team Chief."
This recommendation for promotion and assignment was approved. By the summer of 1980, Mills was a Staff Sergeant and being evaluated for further promotion. As a part of his review for the period 19 January 1980 to 14 August 1980, various superiors had commented upon his performance and evaluated his potential. While I have been asked to withhold the identities of those persons, their comments are noteworthy.
A sergeant wrote, "Sgt Mills' adaptability to stressful situations and maturity have made him a tremendous asset to the [missile targeting] branch as well as to the [missile] wing. He continually strives for excellence in all facets of duty performance. This is exemplified by having 100 percents on paper work audits on 15 [missile launch] sites without any errors. Recommend promotion as soon as possible."
A major wrote, "Sgt Mills is a highly qualified Team Chief whose extensive system knowledge and dedication makes him a very valuable asset. His efforts during the SAC worldwide readiness exercise "Global Shield" were particularly noteworthy and greatly enhanced the wing's ability to place 100% of assigned missiles in alert for simulated execution. Promote [him]."
In short, John W. Mills III was hard-working, an expert in his field, and highly-rated by his superiors. Even so, he was not prepared for what he experienced one night while working in Ellsworth AFB's missile fields. In many ways, it would change his life forever.
During two taped interviews, combined here, Mills told me,I was an Airman 1st Class at the time, part of a two-man Combat Targeting Team. A week, maybe two, after Christmas 1978, I was dispatched out to the Delta missile field, to do a targeting alignment procedure called RMAD (Reference Mirror Azimuth Alignment), which measures earth movement-whether the site has moved or not-so that the targeting would be accurate. My team chief was on Christmas leave so I was paired with a temporary chief, 2nd Lt.
. We were on-site at Delta-3. It was about 6 to 6:30 at night, pitch black, one of those cold winter nights in South Dakota.
The RMAD procedure is very sensitive to vibration. Our guard, who was topside, suddenly started banging on the ladder. We were screaming, 'No, no, no! Don't ever do that! Now we have to reshoot the set!' But he kept banging on the ladder and started screaming at us. He said, 'You've got to get up here now! Either you come up or I'm coming down!' Well, the cops were never allowed below grade.
So, my team chief and I went up the ladder, really frustrated. We were screaming at this kid. He said, 'You tell me what's going on here!' It was then that I noticed this low-frequency hum. I don't know what it was-I've never heard anything quite like it. It wasn't like a hum from machinery. It was coming from everywhere. It was loud! You could feel it on your skin. It permeated everything-you could feel it inside you. You could feel it in your teeth. It was like a microwave except it wasn't heating you up. You could feel it vibrating off the [Launch Facility's] access hatch. The truck [parked next to the access hatch] vibrated. You could feel that reflecting onto you.
We asked the kid, 'When did this start?' He said, 'Five minutes ago.' He told us he had already called the Flight Security Controller and reported the hum. He thought the [missile site's] diesel generator was breaking down and had reported it. According to procedure, the FSC should have called the crew in the [Delta Flight launch] capsule and then they would have called us. But that didn't happen for some reason. Instead, the cop was apparently told to contact us directly. That's when he started banging on the ladder. So, we went upstairs, really angry about the RMAD being ruined. Then we heard the hum too. We thought there had to be a logical explanation. At first, we agreed with the cop that something had gone wrong with the generator.
Then suddenly the kid starts freaking out. He was going nuts! He said, 'Look up!' We looked up. All I saw was black. He said, 'Look to the East.' We did. We saw stars. He said. 'Look to the North.' We did. We saw stars. He said, 'Look to the West.' We did. We saw the light from [the town of] Wall. He says, 'Look to the South.' More stars. Then he said, 'Now look up!' We did. No stars. Nothing, just black. We said, 'It's just clouds.'
By now, we're ready to kill this kid. He said, 'Follow me.' We walked to the north side of the site and went up to the gate. You could hardly hear yourself think, because of the hum. Then we saw it. There was a straight-edge in space. On one side, there were stars, on the other side, it was black. That floored us! But again, we were trying to be logical, you know, maybe some idiot parked a barrage balloon above the site. Looking back, I was thinking really stupid things, trying to explain this thing we were seeing.
But we weren't scared. We were just puzzled. We went out of the gate. Now that we're talking about all of this, it occurs to me that we couldn't hear the hum once we opened the gate and walked off-site. It wasn't outside the site, at least it wasn't as loud. I seem to recall hearing my boots crunching through the snow once we were outside. And I think I was talking to Lt.
and the guard. Huh, it just dawned on me that I had forgotten that until now. But on the site itself, you couldn't hear yourself walking through the snow, and you could barely hear each other talking-all you heard was the hum.
Anyway, [once we were outside the gate], we walked along the edge of this dark thing to its end. There was a corner, where the edge turned and went another direction. It wasn't 90-degrees, it was maybe 60- to 70-degrees. But it was a hard corner. So we turned left and followed that edge. By now, we were about 80-feet west of the entry road. Well, we kept walking and followed that edge to the end, which was back over the site.
Of course, by now, we knew it wasn't a cloud, but you could not see what it was! We turned at that corner and walked, maybe a hundred feet, until that edge turned a corner. I do remember walking to the north side [of the site], and exiting the gate, then heading west, south, east and returning to the gate to get back in. Anyway, the object was not a triangle. It looked like it was four-sided, like a parallelogram or a rhombus [which is diamond-shaped]. But you couldn't tell how high it was.
So, we went back on the site and closed the gate. By then, the noise was deafening. Still, we weren't scared, just perplexed and maybe apprehensive. We had heard rumors about UFOs, and we had heard that people had been discharged for reporting them. I began to wonder if it was some kind of SAC exercise. If it was, we were in trouble. You are not allowed to go off-site, and we had walked out the gate. So, I was concerned we would get in trouble. As I listened to Mills' account, it seemed to me that his thoughts and behavior that night were strangely inappropriate for the situation at hand. While his attempt to comprehend the object in familiar terms is perhaps understandable, his relative lack of fear struck me as bizarre. Given the looming, even menacing presence of the dark shape hovering overhead, and the increasingly oppressive humming sound, one would think that he would have been far more concerned, if not completely terrified. And yet-although the guard was apparently very frightened-Mills and his Combat Targeting Team partner were basically going about their business in a relatively calm and orderly manner.
Over the years I had read about various close-proximity sighting cases during which one or more witnesses had inexplicably reacted to the presence of the UFO in a strangely calm, almost nonchalant manner-as if some sort of mental-conditioning field was present, capable of suppressing emotions such as fear. But I had never personally interviewed such a witness before.
One will recall the statements of former Minuteman launch officer Bob Salas, regarding the missile shutdown incidents at Malmstrom AFB in March 1967. Salas told me, "[I later interviewed] a person who was out in the field working to put the Echo Flight missiles back on line. His statement was that he had been called topside by a security guard shortly after he began to go through his targeting and alignment procedures. Once outside, he saw a round orange glowing object hovering 'not far out' at about 30 degrees from the horizon, which was witnessed by the security guard as well. He stated that he did hear a low-level hum, and could definitely feel the energy field [emanating] from the object, but did not feel threatened by it. He then went back down to continue his procedure-which seemed odd to me, in light of what he just saw. You would think he would have been terrified, but he said he wasn't."
The similarities between this witness' experience and the one reported by Mills are striking. In any case, I mentioned to Mills my incredulity over his apparent nonchalance during the incident. He replied, This may seem strange but we figured, well, this thing is not hurting us, so we walked back to the personnel access hatch [to go down into the missile silo]. As I was about to descend the ladder, the lights went out. The topside lights, and the lights downstairs. Then the truck quit. We always let the engine run in winter, the whole time we were working, so we could leave the site when we were finished. The Air Force-issued batteries were terrible. We always had the guard run the truck for 15 minutes, turn it off for 15 minutes, and then run it again, the whole time we were on site. When the truck suddenly died, the guard tried to call the LCF on his radio. It didn't work.
We got flashlights from the truck and they worked. We figured the back-up generator would kick-in and get the lights back on, but that didn't happen. There are tertiary batteries down in the Launcher Equipment Room, if the generator doesn't work, to keep the site up, but the site was dark. By now, we were more than perplexed. We were freaking out. But not because of the object-we figured we were going to be in trouble for having a site drop-off alert while we were on it. We tried to start everything back up but couldn't, so we went back upstairs.
When we got back outside, the humming had stopped. But the object, whatever it was, was still above us. Then-I don't know how much later, five minutes, thirty minutes, I don't know-the lights came back on. The generator started cranking. That's when I noticed that the object was gone, and you could see the stars overhead. We never saw it leave.
We went back downstairs. The site was down. As far as I could tell, it was a G">See Also:
