There is of course "Mike's" story of his encounters with a Bigfoot, or Skunk Ape. And all the questions most everyone is debating on various Bigfoot forums: is the story true, is Mike a real person, is Williams a liar, delusional, a sloppy researcher, why aren't there photos, video, DNA, casts, why hasn't Mike come forward and so on. Even though Williams explains in the book and elsewhere on-line why Mike doesn't come forward, and addressed other points, the debate goes on.

Those are all understandable points to raise.

But what I've seen very little of is the "second track" in her book; and that is the nature of research. As I said in my earlier post on Enoch, until research -- Bigfoot, UFO, etc. -- understands this, we're not going to get anywhere. And yet this point is ignored. The role of researcher to witness, the expectations of both, the way we go about our search for whatever it is we're seeking (Bigfoot, UFOs-aliens, and so on), our motivations, agendas, desires, and biases -- these are intertwined with the phenomena.

Little will be solved if a Bigfoot body is brought forth to the world (I hope that never happens.) Likewise with aliens. Proof of... what, exactly? As Williams has asked us to consider, what happens next, after the so-called proof is presented? Who "owns" it? How does that affect others? How does it affect "them," -- the Bigfoot, the aliens, the... whatever it is.

So far however, no leaked sources have definitive proof of any alien presence and most published files on UFO sightings are inconclusive. The evidence is usually poor quality and even recent videos and pictures on media sites are either poor quality, identifiable as something earthly or obvious fakes.

"Item: After the publishing house Macmillan announces acquisition of Immanuel Velikovsky's book Worlds in Collision, which makes unorthodox claims about the origins and history of the solar system, famed astronomer Harlow Shapley lobbies the publisher to prevent the book's publication. He fails. According to philosopher David Stove, Shapley then arranges for "denunciations of the book, still before its appearance, by an astronomer, a geologist, and an archaeologist," none of whom have read it. Other reviews by "professors who boasted of never having read the book" follow, and Velikovsky is "rigorously excluded from access to learned journals for his replies." The anti-Velikovsky forces then compel the firing of the long-time Macmillan senior editor who bought the book, even though it has become a bestseller. They also get the Hayden Planetarium's director fired "because he proposed to take Velikovsky seriously enough to mount a display about the theory." Under intense and continuing pressure, Macmillan eventually transfers the book to rival Doubleday, "which, as it has no textbook division, is not susceptible to professorial blackmail."

As the above shows, the tactics of these chronic skeptics are unethical, though sadly typical. Why the Pelicanists, etc. seem to prefer to behave like Bette Davis on her best flamboyant drama queen melodrama days is an intriguing sociological question to ponder.

I've given up on the pondering part long ago; I'll leave that to others who study the sociology of scientism. Still, I enjoy, and believe it's a worthy act, to point out the actions that range from amusing to outrageous, of the "skeptoids."

No matter how many times those of us who point out these behaviors and tactics state that it is the actions, not mere skepticism itself, that is the issue, it falls on deaf ears. Prescott writes:

"I'm not endorsing the validity of all the unconventional theories mentioned above. In particular, I think Velikosky and Reich are unlikely to have been correct. All that interests me, in citing these instances (and there are many others that could be added to the list), is this question: What are the powers of establishment science so afraid of? Why would people who are genuinely confident that they have reason on their side resort to character assassination, ostracism, threats, and even police action to enforce their opinions?

In other words, why do the self-styled defenders of reason, science, progress, and civilization so often act like bullies and thugs?

Irrational rationalists also resort to hyperbole and thin skinned, over the top silliness, as in comparing being called a "thug," or a "skeptoid" to being called a racial or ethnic slur, as I wrote this September (The Usual Purple Tinged Hyperbole About UFOs

Ufo Sighting In Custer Wisconsin On August 4Th 2013 Dark Object With Two Solid

UFO SIGHTING IN CUSTER, WISCONSIN ON AUGUST 4TH 2013 - DARK OBJECT WITH TWO SOLID, WHITE LIGHTS SIGHTED SE OF HWY 10 IN CUSTEER, WI

I came home to visit my family and friends for a long overdue vacation in Wisconsin. I live in Texas, but Wisconsin is my home. My cousin and her husband scheduled a golf outing at Glacier Wood Golf Course in Iola, WI. Iola is a small town about 18 miles due east of Stevens Point, WI. Our golf outing was rather long as we arrived shortly after 4PM CST and played 18 holes. Our group consisted of 6, with 4 of us actually golfing. We decided to have some drinks on the course and played at our own pace. By the time we reached the 16th hole it had become very dark so we scrambled the final 3 holes in the darkness. We were met by two attendents who were waiting for us to finish up. We finished our round shortly after 9PM. On our way back, we were travelling west on HWY 161 toward Stevens Point to end our evening and head back home to Wausau. About two miles before reaching the intersection of HWY 161 and HWY 10 (about 9 miles due East of Stevens Point) I noticed from the back seat of our car two large, non-pulsating, white lights in the SE sky while gazing at the stars. I consider myself to be an amateur astronomer so I love tracking celestial bodies. The lights were both on what I would call the NW-side of the object, or "rear". I call it the "rear" of the craft because it moving very slowly in SE vector that is perpendicular to the arrangement of the two lights. The two lights were essentially arranged in a line with one light in the NE corner and one in the SW corner of the object. I could not see a third light in the front of the object, but the space between the two lights and slightly in front of it (in the SE direction) was solid black. I know that it was a solid object because of the few stars it passed, it would leave a void of darkness until passing through. It completely blacked out these stars while it tracked slowly across the sky, heading SE. I immediately turned the attention of the craft to my girlfriend, sister, and brother-in-law, but they didn't really seem to care. I don't even know if anyone else looked at it. I got the best look at it as we stopped at the intersection of HWY 10 and HWY 161 and paused for our right-turn onto HWY 10. From this point on we continued to head west in the vehicle as the object continued to slowly head SE, away from us as a slow pace. After about 3 miles of travelling west on HWY 10, I lost sight of the object due to our heading and the distance put between my line of sight. During the entire time of my sighting, I made sure to remember the details so I could report it. This was my first UFO sighting. I have seen plenty of satellites, meteors, etc. tracking the skies, but never anything like this. I have heard the stories of the triangle shaped craft, and this is the most apparent thing I can think of that compares to it. The only difference being that the front of the craft didn't have a light that I could see on it. However, the back two corners did. I also know that this object was solid inbetween the lights and that solid space extended out toward the direction it was moving. It is impossible to determine the height of the object, however. I also made sure that I accurately estimated the zenith in the sky as well as the time and the apparent speed (speed is easy to track if you can see how far apart the lights are from one another). In this case, the lights remained attached by darkness (a void or the solid part of the object) that swallowed the starlight as it passed. As a result, I would say that the distance between the lights would shrink by half every 30 seconds or so. Keep in mind that this also includes us travelling ca. 70mph away from it. However, when we were stopped, I estimate that the distance between the two rear lights shrank by half every minute. This is only an estimate, however. During the entire experience I made sure to stay calm and remember as many details as possible, knowing that I had to report it. My only regret is waiting this long to actually do so, but the images are fresh in my mind. I am highly educated (I hold a Masters degree in geography), I watch the skies frequently, and I know a lot about aircraft. As a kid I wanted to be a piolot. I know about most aircraft out there as the Janes Aircraft Dictionary series is one of my favorites. Be assured - this was NOT an airplane. It was too large, too low (I estimate about 3000 feet above if the distance between the lights is 300 feet). Also, none of the lights were blinking and they were too big to be navigation lights. They also were not green or red. It was more like two large landing lights in both corners that never waned or moved. I cannot speculate on sound, but it was very smooth and was in no hurry to traverse the skies. There were other people on the road that night, including some that were travelling in the SE direction of the craft on HWY 10. Maybe somone else saw it too. I hope this description helps. I am now 57 years of age, and I had a UFO childhood abduction! On the map of the San Fernando valley I saw a map grid with two arrows, if you look in the middle of these two arrows, you see a water works project called the "Hansen Dam Reservoir. Right in front of the Hansen Dam in 1952 there was a government housing tract, called the "Basilone Homes." In the year of 2004 there is now a "golf course". In any event, I also notice on the map there was an area called "UFO base". This is very interesting as if one were to investigate, they would find that the Hansen Dam, was built by the Army Corps of Engineers and the housing project was also government housing. Moreover, I believe the dam and the housing were part of a black operation, ie, a government study with no paper trail.Before I forget, in the mid 1960's in the Tujunga mountain range area it was known by the local populace, that this area was a landing base area for UFO's.At the onset of my case, as it pertains to UFO's, I believe this mapped area has been since 1950's until the present time a government (word missing) and interactions with the local people, by abduction, and with military personnel.Before a day time sighting in 1952 when I was at the age of 6 years old, my mother was helping a friend of hers move from our apartment to another town. I was helping my mother's friend pack boxes. The lady let me keep a penlight that I found in the apartment. I then took this penlight, a heavy duty penlight that her husband used for work, to her upper story bedroom and I pointed the penlight out the window, towards the "Hansen Dam." I began to noice that if I were to blink once, I would get a return blink from the Dam area! This went on blink for blink, until my mother saw me and told me to stop the blinking as I might make the airplane crash. Needless to say it was not a plane but my first encounter with a UFO. Even at the tender age of 6 years old, I wondered how an airplane could be on the rim of the dam itself!The next day around midday while playing with my two brothers, and two cousins who also resided at the government housing project, I brought it to their attention, that there was a silver disk/craft, ie., UFO, hovering over a small hill on Foothill and Glenoaks Blvds. As we watched this UFO oscillate in a falling leaf motion, it started to follow a service drive midway in the housing project towards the children's playground area that was at the foot of the Hansen Dam itself. This UFO/craft then flew very low to the ground and it then flew over the swings, and came to rest at the base of the dam.As my case was investigated by the late Dr. J. Allen Hynek, of CUFOS, it came out that my brothers, cousins and other children from the housing project waved at the UFO as it was so low to the ground. In any event I fell downward.I remember being taken to a room with lights that somehow seem to be alive? It was almost like the craft was breathing as the lights were blinking.The next thing I remember was that I was walking back on the service road going in the direction of the housing projct.My playmates who abandoned me at the craft site, were now deep into a game of hide and seek. As I made my way to the apartment I felt dazed. As I entered our apartment my mother was combing my sister's hair and to this day I can remember the color of her red dress, but I couldn't remember who my sister was! I asked my mother who was the girl that my mother was combing her hair. My mother became agitated with me and said "don't you know your sister?" I remember asking my mother if my sister was chinese too as in ELONGATED EYES! Needless to say I was disorientated but I feel that when I asked my mother if my sister was chinese, it was the only way a six year old child could try to describe something out of the ordinary, as in alien wrap around eyes. At this point my mother was fit to be tied and yelled at me to go to my room I did just that. Once inside my room I closed the door and sat in my favorite red sofa chair, the same color as my sister's dress, as if I needed that.As I was seated in the center of the room in my sofa chair, like the Lazy Boy sofas of today, I felt myself floating in the room. Let me say it again, I was levitating in my room. I can still remember touching the curtain rods and I used my hands to walk across the ceiling. I remember touching the light switch, going back to the center of the room, where the overhead light was located, and then floating downward back to my red sofa! As I told my mother what happened she yelled out to me, "get out, you have to have a plane ticket today!" Sadly I found myself being sent outside once again to face another round of UFO activity.As my playmates left the landing sight, near the playground which was located at the base of the dam, they regrouped to play a game of hide and seek back at the housing tract. As I was the last one to enter the game it was me who had to count backwards from a hundred and then find my playmates. I was sent to a telephone pole to start my count. I was showed an old tire, where I was to use as a staging area once I found the children.What was to happen next I need to remind the readers that there was a span of maybe about an hour and a half at the most from the time the UFO landed and what was to transpire next.As I started to count backwards from 100 and then search for the children when I got to around 75 I fell into a deep stupor and when I awoke I found myself on top of the apartments (3rd story roof). While there I was somehow able to hear the children whever they were located and hiding in this game of hide and seek. I would then somehow find myself standing in front of the children and I would proceed to take them back to the old car tire staging area. After dropping off the first group of children to seek the others, when without any warning I found myself once again on top of the third story roof, as bizarre as this may sound.
