In subsequent decades, many "fictional" movies and TV shows did emerge that dealt with this topic in various ways. This trend continues now.

JAXA's first mission, Hayabusa, overcame engine failures, fuel loss and communication blackouts to finally return to Earth after successfully landing on the asteroid Itokawa. Tens of thousands of people in Japan watched the spacecraft re-enter the Earth's atmosphere via Internet streaming and more than 100,000 people queued at several venues around the country to catch a glimpse of the capsule when it went on display.

A malfunction during the original mission meant that bullets could not be fired to collect samples; however, specks of dust from the asteroid were caught in the collection canister, meaning some material was returned for analysis.

Shogo Tachibana, a cosmological chemist at Hokkaido University who is principal investigator for sampling for Hayabusa 2, hopes the material from the second mission will be free of contamination and therefore give a clearer insight into the early days of the solar system, unlike samples of meteorites that have crashed to Earth in the past.

Some journalists in the UK and internationally have reported on this incident in a professional and straightforward manner. Other writers and broadcasters have poked fun at the idea of a UFO as the cause of the damage.

In all news coverage though, a link between the idea of UFOs and the wind turbine has been established. Some headlines have had fun with this connection:

"Do Space Aliens Dislike Wind Power, or Are They Just Clumsy?" asked a New York Times Web site headline.

"Aliens hate green energy," the Discovery Magazine online headline said.

"We tried to be green but the aliens wouldn't let us," an Asian-based Web site headline stated.

An Australian Web site headline asked, "UFO damages wind turbine - Aliens not alternative energy fans?"

An article on the Web site of the UK newspaper The Mail took a different view - that the UFO beings were smart to damage the wind turbines because the devices interfere with the scenic beauty of the countryside. "Proof at last... aliens in UFOs are far more intelligent than we are," claimed the headline.

Of course, the entire topic of UFOs and visitors to Earth from other planets and/or dimensions is a subject that often results in ridicule and disbelief. So, linking this common ridicule with wind energy technology would seem inevitable.

ADVOCATES FOR CLEAN ENERGY

Some writers, publications and Web sites who cover alternative energy and technology are also noting the incident as a way to capitalize on the publicity.

They are using the incident in order to inform the public, media and policy makers about wind turbine technology and other forms and benefits of clean, sustainable energy sources.

They point out that though it is understandable for people to poke fun at the idea of UFOs and extraterrestrials, alternative and clean energy is no laughing matter.

Some international tension is directly linked to dependence on, and supplies of oil and natural gas.

Our economies are stressed by the costs and inefficiencies of conventional fuels.

Massive amounts of greenhouse gases from petroleum and coal use are causing significant pollution in our atmosphere and may be contributing to some kinds of climate change.

As a result, human and wildlife habitats around the planet could be altered in very problematic ways, including devastating impacts on human agriculture and food supplies.

Melting ice caps and glaciers could raise sea levels to disastrous proportions. Meanwhile, supplies of freshwater could be in danger.

So, although the wind turbine UFO case may be puzzling, frightening or humorous, it is bringing attention to alternative clean energy ideas and technology.

Many witnesses near the site of the wind turbine, and witnesses elsewhere in the UK and United States, report a glowing object that looked like a pulsing "jellyfish" or "octopus" with "tentacles."

The 1945 San Antonio Crash case

Born on the edge of Ground Zero, living in the shadow of Area 51, two little Hispanic children experienced an extraordinary event occurred in August of 1945.

Jose Padilla, age 9 and Reme Baca, age 7 witnessed a saucer crash on Padilla land in the town San Antonio, New Mexico. They were witness to one of the most spectacular events in UFO history.

The new book entitled the same "Born the Edge of Ground Zero, Living in the Shadow of Area 51, will be released February 2011 and is Jose Padilla's and Reme Baca's detailed account of what happened in their childhood. They explain what they saw, the actual crash, the creature's appearances, the pieces they took, the military clean up and an in-depth analysis of the significance of this case.

First printed in The Mountain Mail, Socorro, New Mexico on November 2, 2003 by journalist Ben Moffet, the case was passed to me, journalist/researcher, Paola Harris in May 4, 2009. The desire to finally disclose the details and the kind invitation of Reme Baca, led me to fly to Gig Harbor in Washington State in the Northern part of the United States to interview witness Reme Baca and his wife, Virginia in July 2010. Consequently because he now lives in California, I interviewed Jose Padilla by telephone from the Baca house. During my two day stay, I was able to see and photograph the piece that Jose extracted from the craft and study the detailed analysis of its composition done in Europe.

It is one of the most astounding cases I have ever covered in my career and it helps complete the puzzle of why there has been so many crash retrievals in New Mexico. As journalist Ben Moffet who so beautifully describes the cover-up, we can begin to see where it fits in UFO history.

"It was in this crucible of suspicion and disinterest bred by familiarity that a small contingent of the U.S. Army passed almost unnoticed through San Antonio in mid-to-late August, 1945 on a secret assignment.

Little or nothing has been printed about the mission, shrouded in the "hush-hush" atmosphere of the time. But the military detail apparently came from White Sands Proving Grounds to the east where the bomb was exploded. It was a recovery operation destined for the mesquite and greasewood desert west of Old US-85, at what is now Milepost 139, the San Antonio exit of Interstate 25.

Over the course of several days, soldiers in Army fatigues loaded the shattered remains of a flying apparatus onto a huge flatbed truck and hauled it away. That such an operation took place between about Aug. 20 and Aug. 25, 1945, there is no doubt, insist two former San Antonioans, Remigio Baca and Jose Padilla, eyewitnesses to the event.

Padilla, then age 9, and Baca, 7, secretly watched much of the soldiers' recovery work from a nearby ridge."

Thanks to the work of Ben Moffet, and now thanks to the witnesses themselves, currently in their 70's, the world will know see that there was certain extraterrestrial interest in our discovery of the atomic bomb.
