Astronomers May Have Discovered Most Earth Like Planet Beyond Our Solar System

A team of astronomers announced on Tuesday that they may have discovered the most Earth-like planet ever found outside our solar system.

While we may not be zooming down sky highways just yet, discovering life beyond Earth may not be outside our reach in the coming years. In fact, 2015 had barely begun when scientists at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics announced that they had discovered what they believe to be the most Earth-like planet ever found outside the solar system.

The Guardian reports that the planet, Kepler 438b, which orbits a distant star in the constellation of Lyra, may be slightly larger than the Earth. It circles an orange dwarf star that bathes it in 40 % more heat than we receive from our sun. The small size of Kepler 438b makes it likely to be a rocky world, while its proximity to its star puts it in the so-called 'Goldilocks' or habitable zone where the temperature is just right for liquid water to flow, according to the Guardian.

The newly-discovered world, which is 470 light years away, completes an orbit around its star every 35 days, making a year pass 10 times as fast as on Earth. And Kepler 438b is not alone. It is one among eight new potentially habitable planets, including some close to Earth in size and situation, which were announced at the recent meeting of meeting of the American Astronomical Society. Speaking of the announcement, Douglas Caldwell of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California noted to Science magazine, 'We've significantly increased the list of verified small planets in the habitable zone'.

One of the other planets on the new list also looks promising. Kepler 442b lies in the same constellation 1 100 light years away. The Guardian reports that it is about a third larger than Earth, receives about two thirds as much starlight, and has a 60 % chance of being rocky. According to Scientific American, both Kepler 438b and Kepler 442b may be somewhat warmer than Kepler's two previous premier rocky worlds, Kepler 186 f and Kepler 62 f, each of which gets significantly less starlight-similar to that received by Mars.

The research team used a statistical technique known as Blender to confirm that the planets originally spotted by NASA's 'planet hunting' Kepler space telescope were real. Science magazine elaborates, '[Blender] calculates what various false-positive objects would look like and then compares them with the brightness curves of the Kepler candidates, also incorporating any follow up data from other observations. Starting with 12 Kepler candidates believed to be small rocky worlds, the Blender analysis whittled them down to eight new exoplanets with radiuses smaller than 2.7 times Earth's, all believed to be in the habitable zone.'

Although the newly-discovered planets show positive indicators for habitability, study co-author David Kipping, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, sounded a word of caution in Scientific Amercian: 'We can't say for sure whether these planets are truly habitable-only that they are promising candidates for habitability.' He also noted to the Guardian that Kepler 438b and 442b were 'as close to Earth analogues as we're going to find in the Kepler data'.

So what's next in the quest to find life beyond our world? The Guardian believes that planet hunters' hopes are now likely pinned on the next generation of telescopes, including Hubble's replacement, the James Webb Space Telescope, and the European Extremely Large Telescope. Scientific American meanwhile looks stateside to NASA's upcoming Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, expected to launch in 2017. TESS would perform an all-sky survey focused on finding transiting rocky planets around nearby stars.

Public-Funding Update

On November 15, 2014, I launched a public-funding campaign designed to assist the completion of my documentary film, UFOs and Nukes: The Secret Link Revealed. Although an anonymous benefactor contributed 100,000 toward the project in 2013, those funds were close to being exhausted.

At the time I first requested assistance from persons who think that my nuclear weapons-related UFO research deserves greater public attention, I indicated that 25,000 would be needed to finish the film. As of this date, 6,250 in donations have been raised and an additional 5,000 mini-grant was given to me by the Lou Farish memorial trust, a ufological research support group.

Consequently, the total funds raised to date total 11,250, a figure I am extremely pleased to report. Sincere thanks to the many persons who have contributed to the cause; you have greatly increased the likelihood that this important, historic film will be finished in the near future.

Over 150 U.S. military veterans have told me, during interviews going back to 1973, that UFOs have routinely monitored and even tampered with America's nuclear missiles. Several articles at my website discuss the incidents in detail, some of which are confirmed in declassified documents.

Further, documents smuggled out of Russia by television investigative reporter George Knapp reveal that such incidents also occurred at nuclear missile sites in the former Soviet Union during the Cold War era.

Clearly, an unknown, outside third party-operating technologically-advanced aerial craft-have interjected themselves into human affairs in our recent history. Indeed, reports from U.S. Air Force veterans suggest that a UFO incursion at ICBM sites operated by F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, occurred on October 23, 2010-resulting in a 26-hour disruption of the missile communications system at five launch-control capsules. My article about the incident provides the details.

(Once the still-secret comms-disruption was exposed by the Atlantic website, and picked-up by the mainstream media, Air Force spokespersons at the Pentagon quickly admitted that it had occurred, but claimed that it had only lasted 59 minutes, and further claimed that an improperly-replaced circuit card in a weapons systems processor had caused the problem. No UFO-involvement was acknowledged, of course, even though two now-retired missile maintenance technicians informed me, in December 2010, that a huge, cigar-shaped UFO had been independently sighted by several maintenance teams who were in the field during the disruption event.)

This incident and several others, extending back to the 1950s, are presented in my documentary. Cryptids May Be Interdimensional Beings

Well known paranormal investigator Jon-Eric Beckjord's theories sum up much of the argument. He believed that Bigfoot and similar cryptids may be interdimensional beings that can occasionally take physical form for brief periods of time, but have the ability to 'fade out' and pass through 'wormholes', possibly to other dimensions or parallel universes. He reported to have had one of the creatures speak to him using telepathy, communicating the words 'We're here, but we're not real, like what you think is real'. Beckjord claimed that such entities may be able to actually disappear into thin air, or even shapeshift.

Beckjord maintained that the interdimensional hypothesis may possibly, if proven, explain why there are thousands of alleged Bigfoot creature sightings each year, yet no dead zoological physical body is ever found. To evidence these ideas, Beckjord accumulated a large collection of enlarged photographs that he says show, among other things, 'half-Bigfoots' and 'invisible Bigfoots', or possible aliens. The forms are often found in situations where the camera picked up images not seen by the witnesses, often due to distance. According to Beckjord, the images show primates, carnivores and beings not readily identified within known zoological classifications that resemble descriptions of aliens submitted to investigators. He conducted much field work, such as camping out at 'window sites' where, he said, Bigfoot activity is frequently seen. He collected his own photographic evidence of what he believes to be a 'tribe' of either Bigfoots or aliens at El Dorado National Forest.

Beckjord's strong beliefs about Bigfoot and similar entities brought him into conflict not only with skeptics, who consider Bigfoot sightings to be a cultural phenomena purely resulting from wishful thinking or hoaxes, but also with those who believe Bigfoot to be an actu

al physical creature.

Researcher and author Kewaunee Lapseritis maintains that the Bigfoot race was brought to Earth by the 'Star People', long before human civilization. His evidence is the creature's use of telepathic communications, alleged hundreds of joint Bigfoot-UFO sightings going back over a hundred years and theoretical physics. He also stated that conventional Bigfoot investigators have not found the creature because they are limited in their belief that Bigfoot is "simply a relic hominid that never became extinct. That really may be true," Lapseritis said in an interview. "But in addition to that, (Bigfoot) may literally be, as I've discovered, a paraphysical, interdimensional native people that have told me and other people telepathically that they were brought here millions of years ago by their friends, the 'Star People.'

I recently received a telephone call from a woman in British Columbia who said she was the daughter of a Kootenai shaman. She stated that most Native tribes seem to believe Sasquatch is a non-physical creature. Some tribal elders mention that they have seen the creature shapeshift into a wolf. She said her father thought that the creatures lived in another dimension from our physical plane, but can come here as it wishes. He also believed that Sasquatch has great psychic abilities and that the creature can be visible to some people, while at the same time remain invisible to others in the same group.

Of Astronauts And Aliens

Apollo 14 astronaut and sixth man to walk on the moon Dr. Edgar Mitchell has been in the news recently for his assertion that a UFO/ET conspiracy has been going-on for the last 60 years, perpetrated by NASA and the Gov't in order to hide the fact that aliens have been hittin' up the Earth for a while. The Daily Mail has the story here.According to Mitchell, Roswell pretty much conforms to the stories told about it, and there have subsequently been "many" UFO visits to ol' Terra Prime here, each one nefariously covered up by NASA (and, presumably, Cancer Man). During the radio interview that started all the news stories a-spinning, Mitchell said that the aliens were "little people who look strange to us"; in other words, your standard issue Gray. Mitchell also seems to imply that the aliens are at least non-hostile, since their amazing space technology is supposed to be so far beyond ours that turning our little dirt ball to so many ionized particles wouldn't tax them in the least. Of course, NASA has refuted the claims, saying that they don't track UFOs, and that we haven't been visited by Beings from Somewhere Else. Of course, seeing as how they've been blamed for the conspiracy, I doubt that folks will take the offical NASA line seriously.Which sort of makes you wonder about credibility, doesn't it. All these stories have been awfully flattering to Dr. Mitchell. He's always identified early on as "6th man on the moon", his Apollo record is brought up, and his quotes and ideas are passed on without any comment or editorializing. It seems that having been in space makes him an authority on everything about space, including speculative topics like alien intelligence and visitation. That often seems to be the case in the world of the "true believer." It's an argument from authority of course, and false authority at that. I mean, I've been in hospitals; does that make me an expert of surgery? What does an astronaut know about UFOs, or aliens, or secret government plots to obscure those things? No one seems to be asking what Mitchell's credentials are in regards to his knowledge regarding the vast UFO-conspiracy.A quick look at NASAs bio for Mitchell is a little interesting, actually. If you scroll down to the "business experience" section, it turns out that Mitchell was one of the founders of the Institute of Noetic Science (IONS)!The IONS is a group that describes itself thusly:We are a nonprofit membership organization located in Northern Californiathat conducts and sponsors leading-edge research into the potentials and powersof consciousness-including perceptions, beliefs, attention, intention, andintuition. The Institute explores phenomena that do not necessarily fitconventional scientific models, while maintaining a commitment to scientificrigor.That last bit is interesting; IONS effectively says that the scientific method doesn't work for what they look at. That means that they DON'T do SCIENCE when investigating all their brainy-wainy, mindy-windy, psychic stuff.Sort of puts ol' Mitchell and his claims into perspective, don't it? He's not really into the whole "scientific method" or "evidence-based claims" side of things. And yet, when he goes around claiming that their are aliens, they've visited the Earth, and there is a heinous conspiracy to hide all that from the common folk, no one bothers to bring up the fact that he's ALSO associated with a group who eschews science and the peer-review process when making its claims about the paranormal. IF his credibility is being derived from what he once did (i.e., astronaut stuff), then shouldn't it also include his affiliation with the IONS and his obvious interest in the world of explicitly non-scientific fringe ideas?
