Picking Up On What Lesley Said

Lesley has said something in her introduction for today about the media. In discussing UFO Magazine's current issue (you can dowload it for free as a PDF) Lesley refers to the cover, which shows a female an a male news anchor.

The female news anchor Nichole is captioned as saying: "When you think of people saying: "Oh, Hey, I saw a UFO,' you kinda think of freaks. I'm not gonna lie to you."

(First of all, Nicole dahling, you're a newscaster. Or so we're supposed to believe. Your sloppy speech patterns really need work. I mean honsestly: "kinda," and "gonna"?)

Some people think ufologists should impress the media by not seeming so kooky, but when will the media impress me by not seeming kooky and sooooooooo damn lazy?

It's time UFOlogy, instead of constantly complaining about the "sorry state" and whining about not being a part of the infrastructure's party, get aggressive and demand that the media and science step up. They should be coming to our party. Both should get back to what they were trained to do: investigate.

Another Witness Claims Ufo Sighting In Ada County

For at least the second time in three weeks, an Ada County resident reported seeing something unusual in the sky, "moving extremely fast about 600 feet overhead."According to the Mutual UFO Network database, the witness logged his sighting soon after spotting what he called a "large, oval-shaped light" about midnight on July 23."It flew extremely fast right over the top of our neighborhood from north to south," the witness wrote. "I didn't sleep a wink last night."Allen was at the home of Mike Odom in Selden about 6:15 p.m. when they suddenly noticed flashing lights about "3,500 feet above ground level," he said."The ship wasn't really visible and was totally silent, but the lights spanned about a mile long and a half mile wide," Allen said. "The lights went from corner to corner. It was directly above Highway 67 traveling towards Stephenville at a high rate of speed - about 3,000 miles per hour is what I would estimate."Allen said the lights were not those of a normal aircraft. He said they were more like strobe lights, and while they were all watching, the lights reconfigured themselves from a single horizontal line into two sets of vertical lights."The two sets were approximately one-quarter of a mile apart," Allen said. "It adds more credence to not only that of your people's sighting, but to mine as well!"Leigh is well known for having filmed the June 11, 1995, daytime footage of a UFO over Cleburne. London Ontario A Bright Ringdisc Of Lights Stationary Ufo

Location of Sighting: London Ontario sky, facing North. Object was most likely just north of London's Nor-West corner.

Shape of objects: Ring/Disc.

Full Description of event/sighting: While standing outside on my front porch, facing north, waving goodbye to my girlfriend, I noticed a bright ring of lights, stationary in the sky. The sky was clear enough to make out the brightest of stars and the moon through the thin layer of clouds/haze that occupied the sky this evening.

It looked to have a circle of white lights around the perimeter of the bottom of the object. I could not tell if the object was a center-less ring or a disc as the lights seemed to be illuminating the surrounding atmosphere or possibly a illuminating the haze of clouds beneath the ring of lights. The light being emitted from the ring of lights was a soft pure white and was constant with no fluctuations in brightness.

As I stared in confusion at the object that was seemingly floating perfectly still in the sky, trying to identify what it could realistically be, it suddenly shot in a northward direction and was no longer visible (I am unable to see to the horizon from my home due to a number of houses eclipsing that direction).

Shocked and confused at what I had just seen, I placed my hand over my mouth and stepped back before running into the street to attempt to debunk what I thought I had seen.

The entire event took place over the period of only 4 seconds. I have yet to come up with any viable 'real-world' conclusion for what I saw this evening.

Cassini Spots Mini Nile River On Saturn Moon

Scientists with NASA's Cassini mission have spotted what appears to be a miniature, extraterrestrial likeness of Earth's Nile River: a river valley on Saturn's moon Titan that stretches more than 200 miles (400 kilometers) from its "headwaters" to a large sea. It is the first time images have revealed a river system this vast and in such high resolution anywhere other than Earth.

Scientists deduce that the river, which is in Titan's north polar region, is filled with liquid hydrocarbons because it appears dark along its entire length in the high-resolution radar image, indicating a smooth surface.

"Though there are some short, local meanders, the relative straightness of the river valley suggests it follows the trace of at least one fault, similar to other large rivers running into the southern margin of this same Titan sea," said Jani Radebaugh, a Cassini radar team associate at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. "Such faults -- fractures in Titan's bedrock -- may not imply plate tectonics, like on Earth, but still lead to the opening of basins and perhaps to the formation of the giant seas themselves."

Titan is the only other world we know of that has stable liquid on its surface. While Earth's hydrologic cycle relies on water, Titan's equivalent cycle involves hydrocarbons such as ethane and methane. In Titan's equatorial regions, images from Cassini's visible-light cameras in late 2010 revealed regions that darkened due to recent rainfall. Cassini's visual and infrared mapping spectrometer confirmed liquid ethane at a lake in Titan's southern hemisphere known as Ontario Lacus in 2008.

"Titan is the only place we've found besides Earth that has a liquid in continuous movement on its surface," said Steve Wall, the radar deputy team lead, based at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. "This picture gives us a snapshot of a world in motion. Rain falls, and rivers move that rain to lakes and seas, where evaporation starts the cycle all over again. On Earth, the liquid is water; on Titan, it's methane; but on both it affects most everything that happens."

The radar image here was taken on Sept. 26, 2012. It shows Titan's north polar region, where the river valley flows into Kraken Mare, a sea that is, in terms of size, between the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea on Earth. The real Nile River stretches about 4,100 miles (6,700 kilometers). The processes that led to the formation of Earth's Nile are complex, but involve faulting in some regions.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and ASI, the Italian Space Agency. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington. The Cassini orbiter was designed, developed and assembled at JPL. The radar instrument was built by JPL and the Italian Space Agency, working with team members from the US and several European countries. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

Tracy And Ufos

I called Tracy Torme the other day. He's a Hollywood screenwriter, director and producer who has a strong UFO connection. I called him because I had found a copy of Sliders, Seasons 1 and 2, a SF series from the mid-1990s, and had been watching it with my kids. They think it's great! Torme wrote the pilot and several other episodes of the series, and it made me think of him.

Torme (yes, he's the son of Mel Torme, the "Velvet Fog") has penned or been involved in many SF shows, including Star Trek TNG and some of our favourite series of all time, Odyssey 5 and Carnivale. He's also done some feature films, including I Am Legend, and Fire in the Sky, the film version of the Travis Walton UFO abduction, starring James Garner.

The latter film was the catalyst for our acquaintance. When the film came out in 1993, I was given some passes to the local premiere because the marketing included UFO groups. The UFOROM gang who attended unanimously panned it. I wrote a less-than-glowing review and posted it to the net (yes, the Internet existed back then). Shortly thereafter, I received a call from a ufology colleague who told me that "some guy from Hollywood" wanted to talk with me. Eventually, Tracy tracked me down. He was concerned.

My objection to the film revolved around the deviation from the book and from Walton's testimony. Tracy and I talked about this at length. I had always thought the film portrayed the process of UFO case investigation well, and the impact that UFO experiences have on the lives of witnesses and investigators. I just didn't like the "brown goo" later in the movie.

Anyway, Tracy and I came to an understanding and finished our conversation on an amicable note. He and I have been corresponding ever since. I consider him a good friend and someone who has a really good appreciation for what's happening in ufology. He knows details of many cases and spoken with many major witnesses and principal players in the field.

I had heard some news that he was working on a new film version of the Betty and Barney Hill UFO abduction. He confirmed that he and his people are in negotiations and are looking at a feature film based on the events depicted in John Fuller's Interrupted Journey. He already even had some major stars in mind for the leads.

In talking with him, I learned that he got his start in Canada. I should have guessed. His credits include Saturday Night Live, so is it any wonder that he began with - would you believe... SCTV?

Over the past three years I've noticed that in June and July things really start picking up in our night sky. Tonight was an amazing night to go out for stargazing. As I looked up, I thought at first I was looking at just stars. Then I realized, they were moving. As they passed, I pointed them out to my friends and my children. At first they thought they were looking at just the stars too, but once they focused they noticed a bunch of objects were moving in the night sky. There were no clouds in the sky, so it was not an illusion or our minds playing tricks on us. My daughter decided to take my phone and use the flashlight on it on one of the objects to try to communicate with one of them by flashing the light on and off again and it worked! We then went inside and got a normal flash light, they did not respond back but did with the phone. For three and half hours my daughter and I counted over 25 objects flying in the night sky disguised as stars. We also noticed when a plane would fly by, they would put their light out or would just disappear entirely. I can surely say that what we were seeing tonight was not airplanes or an aircraft that is of our world.

As it passed away unlike an aircraft - there were no flashing lights - and as it would appear that we had been viewing it from the rear it remained exactly the same as if we had seen it from the front/side. Having viewed the website there are similar sightings recently over eastbourne.? Is there any explanation?

It seemed to slow on at least 2 occassions and then got much smaller and just dissappeared. My heart was beating fast, more excited than frightened. I have never seen a star so big, so bright and moving in this manner before.
